Shanxi, circa 1860
Another beautiful pair of side chairs from Shanxi province, with the familiar yoke shaped top rail fitted over backward bending stiles that extend through the seat to form the chairs' feet. The seats are set flush into the thick frames, finish in a honey brown that brings out the lovely wood grain. The chairs' backrests are in a subtle S shape, with a single circular long life symbol set near the top in carved relief. There is a further carving on the shaped, beaded apron below the seat. Sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two chairs.
